Panquitch Balloon Festival

PANQUITCH BALLOON FESTIVAL June 27 2009

We wanted to go. It is the last weekend in June and it is getting bigger and bigger. We are planning on going next year and hope to take Pam with us. Annette's children will be in Winnemucca with their dad so they'll miss out, darn.
We noticed these unic medal animals when we drove into Panquitch and took pictures when we finished. I love taking photos of things like this.
I haven't too many grand/great children around so I blog things I like.

We thought the baby giraffe was so cute and it was making sure its mom was close by.

This is what we came for. We stayed at Annette's home Friday and got up early to travel to Panquitch. John was so funny, he thought we were just going up the road a ways. But the drive was worth it. The balloons were just getting off the ground when we arrived.

I love Smoky The Bear. He has taught so many people to be careful with fire. Can you see how they are launching so they don't get into each others way. I understand he has a birthday this year.

We wanted to get a little closer and took the side road and it was in the cemetery. What a great view. Next year we'll go there first. It was a darling cemetery and looked liked the balloons were taking off right from there.
Annette and John liked this multicolor one best. If you look close you can see the people in the basket. I wanted to ride but John said,"NO WAY". Maybe next year?

It was so interesting seeing where the launched and where they sometimes ended up. We thought a few times they would land on our heads. It seems like Smoky is watching out for everyone. He is so cool.

How they ever figure out the colors they want and how to launch them is mind blogging to me. We saw them let these people climb into the basket. They had to jump the fence to to catch up with the balloon.

Can you tell why John liked this one? Check out the face and the ball cap. Pretty cool.

This was a close call but Smoky came to the rescue and they didn't collide. It was fun hearing them talk to each other from the baskets.

We just knew this one was going to land on the field next to us, but they gave it more gas and went up again. :(

It was such a great day. It was cool and crisp. I'm so glad we went. There were a lot of people there and everyone was happy to see them fly.

This was a fun site. These children had the best view in the place. They

This is the first picture we took of the balloons as we came to the hay fields. The sun was so bright but it was beautiful anyway.

A funny note: When we went into a A.M. Market there was a sign up telling the farmers that there may be balloons landing in their fields and if they didn't want them there to let the publicity person to know ASAP. We thought it was rather funny, how could they from doing it. We hope all of the farmers went along and they enjoyed the show as much as we did.
