Hootenanny February 27 2010

These stuffed ducks, pheasants, and deer are mounted
and hang on the walls of the Hafen Ranch. Brings out
lots of stories from the hunters as they look at these
trophies.

This is a photo of Bill when he presented this painting to the Hootennanny group. A very talented "cowboy"

Every year Jan King and her friends have a Hootenanny an Mesquite. Last year we were invited and didn't get to go. This year is was February 27 and we took Karen Hardman Hacking with us. She knew the Kings when they lived in Vernal and a few of their friends in Bullhead City AZ. We were disappointed because we had rain. We've had more rain this year than all 16 years of living here.
We traveled down this little road and reached The Hafen Ranch in AZ. What a darling place to have a Hoot-en-Annie; ( my spelling) I believe Karen knew more people than we did. Our friend Carolee Nelson sang "These Boots Were Made For Walking" and she had boots on to show off.
There was Cowboy Poetry, singing and guitar playing and we received a special treat from William (Bill) Kohler. A print of the 150 Anniversary of the PONY EXPRESS 1860-2010. "It depicts a night scene in winter, clouds threatening, the rider tracked by renegade Indians, an ice-clogged stream to jump, but with the warmth and safety of a relay station in sight (for a good ending). Of course , there were dangers to the riders beyond what I could show in a single painting-
William (Bill) Kohler gave everyone a copy that wanted one plus a copy of his Pony Express explanation. A real treasure for all of us there.
